When is the Festival?
In 2017 the Festival will take place from 25 August to 3 September.
Can I request a copy of the printed Festival program?
The best way to access the full Festival program is via our website or mobile apps (Android and iOS) – these include all Festival events and the most up-to-date information. You can browse and search the full program here.
Our printed Festival Planner includes a selection of Festival events, and is available from our box office, as well as Readings bookshops. The online version of the Festival Planner brochure is also available to download here.
A limited number of Festival Planners are available by post if you’re unable to access it in the ways outlined above. Please call our box office on 03 9999 1199 and we will post a copy, subject to availability.
I’m having problems using your website.
Our website is designed to work on the latest default installations of Internet Explorer, Firefox, Chrome and Safari on both Mac and PC. Users’ own network or proxy settings, or third-party extensions or apps, may affect how the website works and in some instances prevent ticketing information from loading. If you are experiencing problems buying tickets via our website, please consider downloading our MWF App (iOS and Android) or call our box office on 03 9999 1199.
When can I buy tickets?
The full program will be on sale from 9am, Friday 21 July 2017 and tickets will be available from then until the end of the Festival (Sunday 3 September). To keep up to date on Festival news and announcements, subscribe to our e-news here.
How to book tickets
The easiest way to buy tickets is online at mwf.com.au or through the free MWF App for iOS or Android. Browse the program, purchase tickets, then show your tickets on screen at the door – no printing required!
You can also book over the phone or in person at the box office.

How can I use my pass to book tickets?
Passholders can redeem their passes by using the Book On a Pass option on each session page. For more information on using your pass, see the Ticketing Info page here.
How much are tickets?
Prices vary depending on the event you wish to attend, and a single booking fee applies per online or phone transaction. Please check session pages for individual pricing information, or call our box office for more information on 03 9999 1199. For more information on tickets and booking fees, go here.
Do I need to book tickets for a free event?
Most of our free events are drop in with no bookings required, with the exception of the Schools’ Program. However, bookings are required for a small number of free sessions. For these sessions you will see ‘Free, Bookings Required’ under the event description and further details on this process.
Can I buy tickets on the day?
Yes, subject to availability. Visit the MWF box office located at the Fed Square Atrium entrance off Flinders Street. We recommend booking online to avoid box office queues. Tickets are available to purchase online until the event starts.
Am I eligible for the concession price on tickets?
Concessions apply to children* (16 years and under), full-time students, Health Care Card holders, pensioners and seniors. *Except where children’s ticket price applies.
Can I purchase a gift vouchers for MWF?
MWF does not have gift vouchers for purchase. However you are able to purchase a MWF 5 or 10 Pass as a gift for a friend – and download a special MWF gift card to include with the Pass. The Passes are an excellent way to experience the Festival at a discounted price.
Can I bring my child to MWF events?
Events which are suitable for children are in our Children & Teens program stream. You can search by program stream filters here. Children (16 years and under) must be accompanied by an adult, and all persons must have a valid ticket to enter ticketed sessions. For more information, call our box office on 03 9999 1199.
During the Festival
How do I get to the Festival?
Fed Square is easily reached by public transport. The closest train station is Flinders Street Railway Station. Tram routes 1, 3, 3A, 5, 6, 8, 16, 64, 67 and 72 go to stop 13 on Swanston Street (Flinders Street Station); 35, 70 and 75 go to stops 5 (Flinders Street Station) and 6 (Russell Street) on Flinders Street, near Fed Square. Timetable information is available from Public Transport Victoria by calling 1800 800 007 or visiting ptv.vic.gov.au.
Free bike racks are available in and around Fed Square. Public car parking is available at Fed Square and in Flinders Lane. A taxi rank is located outside Flinders Street station.
Where can I go for assistance or information during the Festival?
Please visit our staff at the MWF box office at Fed Square, or approach any of our volunteers who will be happy to help.
How long are events?
Festival events are one hour in duration, unless otherwise stated.
Can I buy books at the Festival?
Of course! MWF’s Official Bookseller Readings will have titles by participating authors for sale during the Festival. You can visit the Readings Festival Bookshop in the Atrium at Fed Square.
Can I get my book signed?
Yes. Authors participating in Fed Square events will be available to sign copies of their work at the Readings Festival Bookshop directly after their sessions.
Does MWF offer wheelchair access, Auslan interpreters or hearing loops?
MWF welcomes people with access requirements. For detailed information visit our access page here.
If you are buying tickets online, please enter any access requirements when prompted at checkout. Alternatively, call 03 9999 1199 to book seats with wheelchair access or to discuss your needs. Most venues have wheelchair access, selected events have Auslan interpreters and many venues provide hearing loops. Details are included on individual session and venue pages of the website.
Does MWF accept Companion Cards?
Yes. Companion Card holders may book in person at our box office, via phone on 03 9999 1199 or email to ticketing(at)mwf.com.au. A copy of your valid Companion Card is required.
