MWF Cocktail Recipe: The Gin-ger Sea

In Martini: A Memoir, Frank Moorhouse wrote, “Every time it is served, the martini represents a journey towards an unattainably ideal drink”. It’s a concept that writers are only too familiar with, but it’s also something Melbourne Gin Company holds close to their hearts. In the pursuit of the ‘unattainable ideal drink’, the folks over at Melbourne Gin Company have immersed themselves in countless experiments with distillation and the flavours of local botanicals.

With their penchant for literature (and Frank Moorhouse quotes) and a love of unique, storyful gin, Melbourne Gin Company is a natural partner for Melbourne Writers Festival. At this year’s Festival, Melbourne Gin Company is supporting the highly anticipated event TEX, featuring a performance and talk with rock icon Tex Perkins. They’ll help us roll out the barrel by serving up the special cocktail ‘The Gin-ger Sea’ – a classic Gin Buck inspired by both Perkins’s band The Cruel Sea and the citrus and rosemary flavours of MGC gin – for one night only.

You can book your tickets to TEX here. Doors open at 7.30pm, to allow time for you to grab a drink and a seat. The bar will also be open throughout the event and until 10.30pm – so you can savour the TEX experience.

Make ‘The Gin-ger Sea’ at home:

45ml Melbourne Gin Company Gin
15ml Lemon Juice
90ml Ginger Beer

Fill glass with ice, pour over gin and lemon juice, top with ginger beer, garnish with a slice of lemon & sprig of rosemary.

We’ll also be serving Melbourne Gin Company gin and tonics at the Deakin Edge pop-up bar every night of the Festival.
