Meet MWF Principal Patron, Jim Hart
MWF Principal Partner Jim Hart is no stranger to the publishing and writing industry. He kicked off his 30-year career in the book industry as an editor, before becoming a partner at Lonely Planet, helping grow the company from a shoestring operation to the world’s best-known travel books. Jim has been active in a number of industry bodies including the Australian Publishers Association along with working in the academic arena and as a publishing consultant. Jim is now semi-retired but continues to use his industry knowledge and experience to help organisations like MWF continue to flourish.
After several years as a MWF donor, during our 30th anniversary in 2015 Jim generously increased his support of MWF through his sub-fund at the Australian Communities Foundation (ACF), The Hart Line Fund, to become our Principal Patron. Through this fund Jim provides important support for education, the arts and other social issues. His support of MWF recognises our role in raising awareness of literacy and literature, especially through our Schools’ Program.
Jim is a passionate advocate for the role philanthropy can play in ensuring cultural organisations like MWF benefit current and future generations: “Melbourne is a great city for literature and the arts, but many people don’t realise cultural organisations such as Melbourne Writers Festival rely on donations to survive,” he said. “I hope others will join me on this rewarding path.”
