Over 11 days and nights, the Festival staged 382 thought-provoking, inspirational events to an audience of 54,356.

In 2014 the Festival had a record total attendance of 56,508 across 402 events. 1 million people experienced the Festival through TV broadcasts and activities at Fed Square.

The Festival unfolded from our Hub at Fed Square, and in some of Melbourne’s most interesting venues, with guests including Salman Rushdie, Helen Garner, Chris Hadfield, Maria Popova (Brain Pickings) and Dave Eggers. 2014 saw the introduction of program streams including: Connect & Explore; World Literature; Local Luminaries; The Agenda; Art, Design & Innovation; Food, Wine & Travel; Music & Performance; Children & Families; Industry Insights.

Caravan Conversations sessions were held in a vintage Airstream caravan with writers including Nick Earls, Jackie French, Philip Hensher, Tara Moss, Molly Oldfield and Maria Popova, interviewed in front of an audience of five people.
