An important festival update
Melbourne Writers Festival cancels live events and brings forward MWF Digital.
Following the extension of Melbourne’s lockdown, and with the safety of our staff, artists and audiences front of mind, Melbourne Writers Festival has made the difficult decision to cancel its live events as part of this year’s program, planned to be delivered across Melbourne from Friday 3 to Sunday 12 September.
All tickets to in-person events will automatically be refunded in full, and anyone who wishes to donate the value of their ticket or make a tax-deductible donation to support MWF is welcome to do so.
The MWF Digital program will be brought forward to give you access to online events from home, streaming for an extended period from 3–15 September. Events are available individually on a Pay What You Can model, or festival supporters can go all in and purchase a Digital Pass.
We are also proud to present Writers on Film, a specially commissioned short documentary series mapping the creative lives of three local authors: Tony Birch, Sophie Cunningham and Jennifer Down. Writers on Film will premiere online on 3 September.
We want to thank the hundreds of writers who were scheduled to be part of this year’s Festival for joining us on this bold and optimistic venture. We’re devastated that we are unable to showcase the staggering talent of so many authors, who have already published books into the most unenviable of circumstances, in the way that we’d planned.
MWF is extremely grateful for the support of our audiences. In the coming weeks and months, we’ll be exploring ways to bring some of the events from our program to audiences, and we’ll be in touch with further updates. Until then, we look forward to sharing ten extraordinary conversations from MWF Digital with readers and writers all around the world.
All tickets to live, in-person events will be automatically refunded in full. This includes 5, 10 and Premium Passes. No action is required to receive your refund. We will be processing refunds as quickly as we can and thank you for bearing with us. Please allow up to 10 business days for the refund to be processed and the funds to appear in your bank account.
Donate your ticket
In the Tickets section of your MWF account, tick any live events that you would like to exchange into a donation. Click the Exchange button at the top of the page, followed by the Donate Now button. Follow the checkout instructions to complete your donation.
Exchange your ticket for a credit voucher
Similar to donating your ticket, you can exchange your ticket for a credit voucher that can be used to book events at next year’s Festival. In the Tickets section of your MWF account, tick any live events that you would like to exchange for a voucher. Click the Exchange button at the top of the page, followed by the Buy button underneath the Voucher heading. Follow the checkout instructions to claim your voucher.
As a not-for-profit organisation, MWF will be significantly impacted by the loss of box office income this year. These are difficult times for so many people, and we know that not everyone is in a position to donate. However, if you would like to support MWF, you can make a tax-deductible donation.
