Closing Night: Robert Dessaix

Sun 11 Sep, 6pm

One of Australia’s finest writers, Robert Dessaix has been driven by a variety of ambitions throughout his storied life in letters. His eagerness to discover the world through its writers, artists and musicians has sustained his love of Russian language and literature, motivated his many travels around the globe, and enriched a body of work spanning novels, biographies and essays distinguished by his trademark intimacy and wit, culminating in a life of great literary ambition and, importantly, contributions recognised in his recent acceptance of the Australia Council Award for Lifetime Achievement in Literature. In the Festival’s Closing Night address, Dessaix reflects on a lifetime of diverse ambitions, and how his desires and aspirations have ebbed, flowed and changed course across the span of time.
