Kindred: Queer #LoveOzYA Stories

Enjoy an entire day of Young Adult literary programming featuring author talks, panels and in-depth conversations at MWF19’s YA Day.

Queer stories with queer characters by queer writers, this anthology is a YA collection for our time. Editor Michael Earp will speak with contributors Christos Tsiolkas, Ellen van Neerven, Marlee Jane Ward, and Nevo Zisin to discuss awkwardness, love, friendship and hope.

Session Artists

Michael is a children’s literature specialist who has worked for a children’s publisher and as bookseller for over fifteen years, currently at The Little Bookroom. His writing has appeared in The Victorian Writer and Aurealis. He is editor of Kindred: 12 Queer #LoveOzYA Stories and contributor to Underdog: #LoveOzYA Short Stories.

Christos Tsiolkas is the author of five novels: Loaded, The Jesus Man, Dead Europe, The Slap and Barracuda, and the collection Merciless Gods. He has been longlisted for the Man Booker Prize, shortlisted for the Miles Franklin Literary Award and the Commonwealth Writers' Prize, and his works have been adapted for film and television. He is also a playwright, essayist, and screenwriter.

Marlee Jane Ward is the award-winning author of Welcome To Orphancorp, Psynode and Prisoncorp. Her short fiction is published in Apex, Terraform, Aurealis Magazine, and more. Her non-fiction is featured in Overland, Meanjin, and Kill Your Darlings. She lives in Melbourne with her two cats.

Nevo Zisin is a Jewish, queer, non-binary writer, activist and public speaker. Based in Naarm/Birraranga/Melbourne, they run workshops in schools and workplaces around trans issues. They are the author of the award-winning memoir Finding Nevo and a contributor to Kindred: 12 Queer #LoveOzYA Stories.

Ellen van Neerven is a Mununjali Yugambeh writer from South East Queensland. Ellen's books include Heat and Light (UQP, 2014) and Comfort Food (UQP, 2016).
