Rewriting Romance
Sat 10 Sep, 3pm
From Romeo and Juliet to Twilight, drama-rich love stories have long shaped young readers’ expectations when it comes to romance and finding ‘the one’. But how do today’s YA writers go about depicting the less starry-eyed truths of love and longing, as well as the realities of forming and sustaining a meaningful relationship? Sarah Ayoub (The Cult of Romance), Alice Boyle (Dancing Barefoot) and Tobias Madden (Take a Bow, Noah Mitchell) discuss writing stories that reflect the sometimes messy and often awkward experiences of young people in love, with Leanne Hall (The Gaps).
