Workshop: Crafting Short Fiction

Demonstrating a sharpness and intensity, short stories are compact forays into whole worlds. Laura Elvery (Trick of the Light) shares how to master the form by explaining the skills required for their effective execution, unpacking plot, structure, form, character, and voice to turn your ideas into gripping short stories.

Laura Elvery is the author of the short story collection, Trick of the Light (UQP, 2018). She has won the Josephine Ulrick, Margaret River, Neilma Sidney and Fair Australia short story prizes, and has written for Overland, Meanjin, Griffith Review and The Big Issue fiction edition. She lives in Brisbane.
