Dr Yumiko Kadota's blog post 'The ugly side of becoming a surgeon' went internationally viral and was the catalyst for her brave and unflinching memoir Emotional Female. Hear from Kadota as she discusses finding the resilience to rebuild after suffering a physical, emotional and existential breakdown from the toxic culture of the Australian public hospital system, with Dr Ranjana Srivastava.

Event artists

Yumiko Kadota has been a medical doctor for over ten years and currently lives in Sydney. She was working towards a career in plastic and reconstructive surgery but resigned from public hospital work in 2018 due to toxic work conditions. She writes about it in her memoir, Emotional Female.

Dr Ranjana Srivastava is an oncologist, Fulbright scholar and award-winning writer of six books. She recently graduated from Harvard University with a Master in Public Administration.
