What To Pack

Or, Something About the Weather

Neil Finn didn’t write the Crowded House song ‘Four Seasons In One Day’ about Melbourne specifically, at least I don’t think he did, but this wouldn’t be the first time Australia has tried to claim something from NZ so let’s just say IT BELONGS TO MELBOURNE.

You’ll be visiting Melbourne at the tail end of what has been a long and chilly winter. The facial expression you’re seeing on the faces of those lovely Melburnians around you at Festival time could generously be described as ‘a little bit over it’. With spring deliciously around the corner, Melbourne will likely be crisp and cool, with intermittent bursts of sunshine (and, quite likely, intermittent bursts of torrential rain).

Nights will be cold, so make sure you have a rakish scarf to fling dramatically over your shoulder when entering or exiting venues. That said, this city is so wildly unpredictable there’s every chance you’ll arrive in the midst of a once-in-a-millennium heatwave so make like a Boy Scout and be prepared. We’ll be updating weather in our daily Festival reports here on this very site, giving you even more reason to check in.
