From religion and social change to democracy and the meaning of life, there’s no subject A. C. Grayling can’t turn his prodigious mind to.

In this special lecture, the philosopher considers the divisive state of public culture and the chilling effect it’s having on intellectual discourse. Looking at the history of cancellation, from Ancient Greek ‘ostracism’ to hemlock cups, witch trials and the House of Un-American Activities, Grayling presents a nuanced and timely examination of the culture wars and their discontents, and offers a compelling vision for how we might move forward.

The lecture will be followed by a Q&A hosted by Esther Anatolitis.
