Imagine creating characters who share powerful magnetic forces fuelled by needs and desires, knowledge and power. The closer a network of characters are drawn together within a narrative eco-system, the greater the dramatic tension. You’ll learn how to apply this technique to your own project in this workshop featuring close-reading and practical exercises.
Join 2025 Booker Prize-longlisted author of Endling, Maria Reva, for this expert workshop, as she guides you through this writing technique and its applications.
In preparation, attendees will be asked to read two provided stories from Reva’s acclaimed story collection, Good Citizens Need Not Fear (“Letter of Apology” and "Bone Music"). In the session she will share the original ambitions for the stories, why they didn’t work on the page, and how she evolved them in the drafting process.
Suitable for writers at all levels of experience.
