Hannah Bambra, Ruth Larner, Hannah McElhinney and Emma Hardy come together to discuss their works on personal and collective medical experiences where pain is dismissed, instincts doubted and the body misread. Amid systemic bias and gendered gaslighting, these stories of self-advocacy are starting to come to the fore.
Hosted by a sexual reproductive health writer, this panel spans authors of a literary memoir about living with PMDD, an autofictional work that explores the complexities of modern motherhood and a nonfiction examination of the dark heart of alternative medicine. Together their works interrogate how and why these experiences can be minimised, misdiagnosed and misunderstood.
