Genki Kawamura

Genki Kawamura is a Japanese writer and filmmaker. In 2012, he published his first novel, If Cats Disappeared from the World, which has been translated into thirty-five languages and sold over three million copies worldwide. In 2022, he directed the film adaptation of his own novel One Hundred Flowers, becoming the first Japanese filmmaker to receive the Best Director Award at the San Sebastián Film Festival. In 2025, his second feature film Exit 8 was selected for the Official Selection of the Cannes Film Festival. The novel Exit 8 will be published worldwide this year.
