  A Tokyo-based writer and translator, Matt is a contributor to Aeon Magazine, The Wall Street Journal, The New York Times, The New Yorker, and more. A long time translator of video games and manga, including Dorohedoro and Doraemon, his literary translations include Zero Over Berlin (Joh Sasaki) and Japandemonium Illustrated (Toriyama Sekien).
  
  A former co-host of the NHK series Japanology Plus, he is the co-author of Yokai Attack! The Japanese Monster Survival Guide (2011, Tuttle) and author of Pure Invention: How Japan's Pop Culture Made the Modern World (2020, Hachette).

  Genki Kawamura

  Genki Kawamura is a Japanese writer and filmmaker. In 2012, he published his first novel, If Cats Disappeared from the World, which has been translated into thirty-five languages and sold over three million copies worldwide. In 2022, he directed the film adaptation of his own novel One Hundred Flowers, becoming the first Japanese filmmaker to receive the Best Director Award at the San Sebastián Film Festival. In 2025, his second feature film Exit 8 was selected for the Official Selection of the Cannes Film Festival. The novel Exit 8 will be published worldwide this year.
