  A Tokyo-based writer and translator, Matt is a contributor to Aeon Magazine, The Wall Street Journal, The New York Times, The New Yorker, and more. A long time translator of video games and manga, including Dorohedoro and Doraemon, his literary translations include Zero Over Berlin (Joh Sasaki) and Japandemonium Illustrated (Toriyama Sekien).
  
  A former co-host of the NHK series Japanology Plus, he is the co-author of Yokai Attack! The Japanese Monster Survival Guide (2011, Tuttle) and author of Pure Invention: How Japan's Pop Culture Made the Modern World (2020, Hachette).

  Hiroko Yoda

  Hiroko Yoda is a certified historian of Shinto culture. Raised in Japan, she earned a master's degree from American University in Washington, D.C., and then founded AltJapan, an agency specializing in cultural adaptation of entertainment content.
  
  Her articles have appeared in the New York Times, The New Yorker, and more; she has also collaborated with CNN, PBS, and the BBC.
  
  Eight Million Ways to Happiness is the result of a personal and professional journey spanning more than ten years, during which she reconnected with her Japanese roots. She lives in Tokyo.

  Laura Hasegawa

  An emerging Japanese-to-English translator currently completing her PhD in Translation Studies, where her research explores the polysemic concept of voice in translation. She completed her Master’s degree in T&I in 2023 and was a recipient of the AUSIT Student Award. As part of her Master’s, she undertook a practice-based research project on translating Japanese onomatopoeia. Her reflections on this project were published in In Touch magazine.

  Haydn Trowell

  Haydn Trowell is an Australian translator of Japanese literature whose work has appeared in Granta, Electric Literature, and Words Without Borders. He has translated fiction by major prize-winning authors such as Yasunari Kawabata, Maki Kashimada, and Rie Qudan, and he has worked extensively with publishers in Australia, Japan, the UK, and the US. Haydn holds a PhD in translation studies from Monash University.
